About the Supervisor

Supervisor Solis, representing Los Angeles County’s First District, joined the Board in December, 2014. Throughout her career in public life, she has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to bettering the lives of people. Born to working-class immigrant parents, and raised in the San Gabriel Valley, she has achieved a remarkable record of “firsts”-first Latina elected to the California Senate, first woman to receive the John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award and first Latina to be named to a U.S. Cabinet position, serving as Secretary of Labor under President Obama. Prior to that appointment, she represented California’s 32nd Congressional District for eight years. Since her election to the Board of Supervisors, she has targeted a wide range of issues to improve the region’s quality of life, including economic development, environmental justice, homelessness and access to healthcare. She graduated from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, and earned a Master of Public Administration from the University of Southern California.
