About the Supervisor

Supervisor Knabe has represented Los Angeles County’s Fourth District since he was first elected in November 1996, after serving as Chief of Staff to the late Supervisor Deane Dana. Over the past 20 years, he has worked to protect the vulnerable children of Los Angeles County. He established the Safe Surrender program, which allows someone to surrender an infant within 72 hours of birth, as long as the infant shows no signs of abuse. Since 2001, more than 140 babies have been safely surrendered. The Supervisor also is recognized as a national leader on the issue of child sex trafficking, having launched multiple awareness campaigns, lobbied for legislation to punish sex buyers and advocated for services for victims. The Supervisor also continues to support efforts to create jobs, help veterans, expand music and art opportunities to communities, and empower youth through sports and employment. He is a U.S. Navy veteran and graduated from Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa. The Supervisor and his wife Julie reside in the City of Cerritos.
